DIAGNOSE & SAVE

Recognizing When a Tooth Needs Root Canal Treatment

A root canal saves teeth that would otherwise need extraction. Discover the main signs indicating an infection deep inside the tooth root.

Root Canal Treatment Can Relieve Severe Tooth Pain

Severe or persistent tooth pain can be a sign that the inner pulp of a tooth is infected or inflamed. Root canal treatment removes the affected tissue, cleans the inside of the tooth, and helps relieve pain while preserving your natural tooth.

Treat Deep Decay Before It Reaches the Tooth's Nerve

When tooth decay reaches the inner pulp, a regular filling may no longer be enough. Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp and seals the tooth to prevent the infection from spreading further.

Root Canal Treatment Helps Stop Dental Infection

An infection inside a tooth can cause swelling, sensitivity, pain, and discomfort. Root canal treatment removes infected tissue and bacteria from the tooth, helping control the infection while allowing the natural tooth to remain in place.

Save a Cracked Tooth With Root Canal Treatment

A crack or significant injury can allow bacteria to reach the inner pulp of a tooth. When the pulp becomes inflamed or infected, root canal treatment may help save the tooth and prevent the need for extraction.

Persistent Hot & Cold Sensitivity May Need Root Canal Care

Sensitivity that lingers after exposure to hot or cold foods and drinks may indicate irritation or infection within the tooth. A dental examination can identify the cause and determine whether root canal treatment is appropriate.

FAQ

Common Questions

01 Is a root canal treatment painful?
No. Modern root canals relieve pain rather than cause it. Thanks to effective local anesthetics, the procedure feels similar to receiving a standard cavity filling.
Most root canal procedures take between 60 to 90 minutes. Simple single-root teeth can be completed in one visit, while complex multi-rooted molars may occasionally require two visits.
After infected pulp is removed, the tooth loses its internal blood supply and can become brittle over time. A custom crown strengthens the tooth and protects it from cracking under chewing pressure.
Most patients return to work or routine activities the next day. Mild tenderness in the surrounding jaw tissue for 2–3 days is normal and easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
